America's Got Talent (AGT) (2010) - July 28, 2010 (Results #3)

Remember, this is from the live show last night.

The acts are:
The South Philly Vikings
CJ Dippa
Harmonica Pierre
Polina Volchek
The Strange Familiar
Haspop
Luigi
Chipps Cooney
Kaya and Sadie
Jeremy vanSchoonholden(?)
Debra Romer
Studio One Young Beast Society

Of the 12 acts. Four will move on - Three by America's Vote and from the 4th and 5th of America's vote, the fourth to move on will be chosen by the judges.

My picks: The Strange Familiar, Haspop, Debra Romer, Studio One Young Beast Society

And live performances from The Jabberwockies and Mike Posner.

Segment #1

The first group out: The South Philly Vikings, CJ Dippa, HasPop
Sharon: I am absolutely shocked. I'm very nervous (likes all the acts)
The act going into the semi-final and moving one step closer to the $1M and a headline show in Las Vegas is: HasPop.
Doing this for his family. It means everything.
Howie: (Did they make the right decision?) I believe so. CJ Dippa is at the very start of his career. If they voted on raw talent alone, the wow factor, of the acts on the stage, Haspop, you've got it.

Segment #2

Orville Lounge from last night (after the show)

The Jabberwockies perform (dance group from Vegas)
Performed three years ago on AGT. Now they have a Vegas show.

Segment #3

Next group: Chipps Cooney, Studio One Young Beast Society, Polina Volchek
America has voted. The second act going through to the semi-finals is: Studio One Young Beast Society
Feel so accomplished, and on their way to their dream.
Piers: I'm distraught that Chipps Cooney is going home right now. I'm sure Howie's right
You guys... I really am thrilled for you. Last night I saw dedication, focus, and real talent. Look at Jabberwocky earlier. They didn't make it through. No matter what happens, you will make it.

Next Group: The Strange Familiar, Debra Romer, Luigi
(Shoot... ALL are great!)
Piers: I think America will have thought long and hard about it. Because Luigi had two great rounds, then last night was a bit off. Strange Familiar, I loved the earlier stuff, but last night, it wasn't quite there. And Debra, I rewatched the tape, and am not sure you deserved the standing ovation... You did a good job of getting over the nerves, but you weren't quite there, yet... You've done better. So, I think this selection will be fascinating.
And the act going through: Debra Romer
Sharon: I'll say what I always say, America always gets it right.

Segment #4

Mike Posner performs

Segment #5

The next group: Harmonica Pierre, Kaya and Sadie, and Jeremy vanSchoonholden(?)
America has voted. The act LEAVING the competition and going home, is: Harmonica Pierre.
And... Commercial

Segment #6

Sharon: I want to put everybody through, but I can't. I think that I'm gonna put Jeremy through.
Piers: Under normal circumstances with a trick cyclist and a pair of belly dancers, it would be the belly dancers. But Jeremy, you showed me last night how entertaining it can be. I'm going to go with the act that I can see winning this competition. And for that reason, I'm going to go with Jeremy. (He's through without Howie voting.)
Howie: I think Jeremy should go to vegas, and Kaya and Sadie should come to my house. (Vote wasn't needed.)

That's it for this week.

Haspop, Young Beast Society, Debra Romer, and Jeremy vanSchoonholden(?) are throught to the semi-finals.

Cya next week. ;-)

America's Got Talent (AGT) (2010) - July 27, 2010 (Live #3)

from Hollywood.

12 acts perform tonight. Four will move on - Three by America's Vote and from the 4th and 5th of America's vote, the fourth to move on will be chosen by the judges.

Segment #1

Tonight: Youngest is 10, and oldest is 74.
Remember, the judges, while important, don't really count tonight. America votes on who goes through (but the 4th & 5th)

Howie: Nervous energy is a fuel for a performer... Sometimes, though, nervous energy is... gas... That's not the type of energy you need.
Sharon: Unfortunately, being great is not enough for tonight. They have to take their own talent and put their own spin on it.
Piers: I've just seen the line-up for tonight, and I think I may have a busy evening. (buzzing)

The South Philly Vikings (dance group from Philly)
Costumed (full) dance group.
Piers buzzed
Piers: Buzzed because it was overgrown school-children in robot costumes. I just see a bunch of people who don't sing, can't dance well. I don't get it.
Sharon: I would like to apologize for my collegue. Anyway, you're blue-collar guys, none of you have professional training. I think it's really good entertainment.
Howie: I think I'm somewhere in between. Very entertaining, but I don't know if it's a dance group or entertainment group. I don't know where to categorize you. It's like an arts show on steroids.
(They're interesting, but I don't think they will beat others tonight.)

Segment #2

CJ Dippa (kid rapper)
(Got a phone call - but saw... Missed Sharon and Howie's remarks)
Piers: Time to get serious. On the negative side, I didn't understand a word you said. (Can't understand any rap song.) You've got stage presence. I can tell you think you are the best. Are you in it for the money, fame or women. (Neither... I mean, my dream... and all three!)
(from what I saw, not bad. Again, thought, I don't think he will beat others, tonight.)

Segment #3

Harmonica Pierre (obvious)
Owns more than 150 harmonicas.
Slow start (classical) then into "Hey Soul Sister".
Howie: My question is whether harmonica is big enough to win to the show. It reminded me of my doctor's office.
Piers: I loved the fact that you had a good go at something we haven't seen before. With the possible exception of Larry Adler, you are the best technical harmonica player I've ever seen.
Sharon: You say if you come back, you want to play the blues. I loved the way you mixed it up tonight.
(Slowed up in weird spots, but that was the arrangement. Nice harmica-playing. Howie may be right. We'll see.)

Segment #4

Polina Volchek (gymnast)
Piers buzzed
Piers: It was boring. I am disappointed, because I loved you in the previous two rounds with the hoops.
Sharon: I don't agree at all. I know what a dedicated artist you are. You're timing is impeccable. You are so dedicated. I applaud what you do. I loved your music. Your movements are so fluid.
Howie: I think he's totally wrong. I loved what you did with the hoops, the ropes, and everything.
(Nice. Fluid dance movements. Her making it will depend on the rest of the acts for tonight.)

Segment #5

The Strange Familiar (band - guy and girl have been together since 6th grade and are married.)
"Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper
Sharon: I'm not sure. I have to be brutally honest. I love your voice, I love the song and Cyndi Lauper. I think until you got the chorus it wasn't quite right, then it kicked in. I think there's some confusion in the band's direction (dress). Song choice is so important at this point. I don't think you did yourself justice.
Howie: You're looking at least at this point, the "Wow" factor. I wasn't WOW. And it's GOTTA at this point. This is not the end of the road if you don't make it back.
Piers: I thought 20 seconds was great, but the rest wasn't. Sharon's right about the confusion... There's you as the star, and the rest of the band as a bar band from ... I don't know ... San Antoinio. I think the time has come for you to make a decision, difficult because you're married to one of them, but I would dump the band.
(Great. They should go through.)

Segment #6

Haspop (Dancer/Gymnast/Mime)
Left France to pursue his dream.
Howie: That's what I'm talking about. That is wow. I don't know what it looks like on television, but I'm sitting right here, looking for wires. I absolutely loved it. That was phenomenal.
Piers: At this precise performance, I would go so far as to say, that was the performance of the night.
Sharon: It's like I said. You've got to bring your talent, but put your own twist on it. And as much as I hate to agree with Piers, that was the best performance of the night.
(Very good at what he does. We'll see.)

Luigi (singer)
"This Love has Taken a Toll"
Piers buzzed near end.
Piers: I think you're a good singer, and any normal season, you'd do well. As I watched you, there were a couple of times your voice wasn't quite there, and I think you know it.
Sharon: Anyone can win. However, you did start off a bit shaky. You started really soft and got better near the end. I think you have great potential.
Howie: It hink there were a couple of times when you were flat. And you were worried about your guitar-playing. If we can see that, it's not good. I hope that America remembers your prior performances, and puts you through, but tonight wasn't your best performance.
(He agreed, but I liked it.)

Segment #7

Chipps Cooney (comedian/magician)
"Went back to his roots - A Chip-n-Dale dancer. Took off clothes to undies and garters holding socks on. Girls rushed stage to tuck bucks, and he gave them change.
Piers buzzed.
All buzzed.
Sharon: Do you have a diaper on under your shorts. (Getting older, yeah.) Just checking.
Howie: Here's the thing. I have loved you from the beginning. I loved the sad-sack magician from the beginning. You should have stuck with that. Stay in that character. That's what people are responding to. (I ran out of illusions.) Then stick with that, and spend your time setting up an illusion that never happens. Stay in that character.
Piers: He did stick with the character - A complete imbecile. I woke up this morning wondering how you could make this act worse, and I decided it was if you took your clothes off, and you did. (He never got the joke.)
(I think he lost it tonight.)

Segment #8

Kaya and Sadie (belly-dancers)
Howie: You're going to Hollywood! I don't know. I just wathced. I wasn't judging. I was just watching. And I felt like ordering the Kabootie.
Piers: Can I just say having to watch these revolting naked performance of Chipps Cooney, you have brought back my faith.
Sharon: I thought it was fantastic... Very entertaining. Belly-dancing, people say "Is it enough?" There are a group of women out there who have shown it can be, and you can join them.
(I thought they did a great job... LOL)

Segment #9

Jeremy vanSchoonholden(?) (stunt bike rider)
Builds own props. (Tonight, doing stunts blindfolded)
(Got up to 10 feet high on rolling cage, and 6" paths, then three jumps at 10 feet high over girls, blindfolded)
Piers: you're dangerous, your talented, etc. It's not really my cup of tea, but you are slowly making it my cup of tea.
Sharon: Fantastic.
Howie: I agree with my cohorts... You ratchet it up every show. It's kinda hip and X-Gamish... And if you make it, it IS a show!
(He's VERY good at this. It would be nice if he made it.)

Segment #10

Debra Romer (singer)
Fleetwood Mac song "The Chain?" ("Thunder only happens when it's rainin'")
Piers gave a standing ovation.
Sharon: You should be very proud of yourself tonight. The confidence is there. You have a combination fo being vulnerable, sweet, etc.
Howie: Not only does the camera love you, but America loves you. You're getting better and better. It kind of makes me uneasy (the vulnerability), but it's what Piers responds to.
Piers: I have just watched a young woman who has come to that stage. You look like a star, you sang like a star, you are a star.
(It was a good performance. I hope she makes it through.)

Segment #11

Studio One Young Beast Society (Hip-Hop Dancers)
Howie: I gotta be honest with you. You brought it. It was wow. That was the best dance performance we've seen
Piers: I could not agree more. I think you are really on your game. I can see in your eyes how much you really want it. You just ended the show on a brilliant hight.
Sharon: We've seen very many dance groups. But few have come here and shown us their personalities. I congratulate you.
(Pretty good. Piers was right. The show has gotten better and better since Chipps.)

My picks: The Strange Familiar, Haspop, Debra Romer, Studio One Young Beast Society

Tomorrow night: The Jabberwockies and Mike Posner, and the results of tonight's voting.

America's Got Talent Live hosted by Jerry Springer will go cross country, lead by the winning act and some of America's favorites.

The Strong Man
Ronith

Wreckless

Our picks from last night:
Chris: Alice Tan Ridley, AscenDance, Antonio Restivo, Michael Grimm
Me: Alice Tan Ridley, AscenDance, Antonio Restivo, Michael Grimm

--

Segment #1

The first group out: Mona Sampath Dance Company, AscenDance, Ronith
Piers: It might be easier to say who I don't want to hear go through. I'm hoping I hear "I won't be back" (growling as Ronith)
And the act going through to the semi-final show and moving one step closer to the $1M is: AscenDance
I feel like we're in the midst of creating a new art-form.
Sharon: America got it so right. And it IS a new art-form.

Segment #2

Review of "The Orville Lounge" (after show)

Cirque De Soleil performs

Segment #3

The next group of acts: Cheer SF, Iron Horse, Alice Tan Ridley
Howie: (Who do you think America Voted for?) I think America has it right, and can't be wrong. And I think I have it right. Judging by these three here, I think America chose Alice.
The act going through to the semifinal show: Alice Tan Ridley
Standing Ovation, and huge group hug by the other acts to Alice.
Do you think you're daughter Gabby is proud of you right now? I know she is.
Piers: I could not be happier. I said last night, you're kind of what this show is created for. We've taken you from the subway, and each show you've gotten better and better. And if you don't stop...

The next group of acts: Michael Grimm, Lil Chris, The Strong Man
Sharon: (Who's staying and who's going on?) Ozzie watched, and thinks Michael is going on.
America has voted. The act going into the semifinals and moving one step closer to the $1M and a headline show in Vegas is: Michael Grimm
(He looked shocked! LOL)
What does it mean to you? I means everything, and everything to my family.
Howie: I said Michael is my favorite singer. It was my decision and America's decision, and they got it right. (Well said by a Canadian!)

Segment #4

Train, performing Hey Soul Sister. (LOVE that song)

Segment #5

We're 3 for 3

Last acts out: Wreckless, Hannibal Means, Antonio Restivo
First, we need to send an act home. Based on YOUR votes. America has voted.
The act leaving the competition and going home is: Hannibal Means.
Nick: I'm sorry Hannibal. I know I'll never forget you.
Hannibal: I'll never forget myself. I had a wonderful time and celebrated every second of it.
Antonia and Wreckless are left. Two acts, two dreams.
After the break.

Segment #6

Welcome back. Judges decide between the 4th & 5th in audience vote, now.

Howie: Who do you want to put through: This is always the toughest part of the show for me, and I know you both want to go through so badly, but I have to go with my gut. Antoinio.
Piers: I don't know if we've had two acts who want to go through so badly. My head says Antonio. My heart says these kids, who have done it all without props, etc. I'm going to go with my heart: Wreckless.
Sharon: You're both very special acts. I'm gonna have to say that... I'm gonna have to agree with... Howie. (Antonio).

Wreckless is grateful for everything they've been able to do, so far.

Antonio, why does this mean so much to you? Something I've wanted since I was a child. If my father were alive, he'd be sitting right there with my mother, cheering us on.

Next week, another Live show, another 12 acts.

Cya, then. ;-)

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

America's Got Talent (AGT) (2010) - July 20, 2010 (Live #2)

12 Quarterfinalists tonight. Tomorrow, America will have chosen three and the judges picked between the fourth and fifth place acts.

Segment #1

Piers: This is sudden death. Four went through. Eight went home.
Sharon: It's going to be as tough as last week, and we have a very different bunch of acts this week.
Howie: It was like David Hasselhoff deciding which daughter to share a burger with. (Remember, last week, he made his choice at the VERY last second, and they were all teasing him about that.

Cheer SF (Cheerleader act) (from SF, CA)Ages 19-52
Sharon: They're fabulous.
Piers: My problem is they're mostly blokes. There should be more girls.
Act starts.
Piers buzzed. Sharon buzzed.
Piers: I don't really get the cheerleading things as a form of entertainment. You're supposed to make me cheer, and I just wanted to go to sleep.
Sharon: I love your enthusiasm, the look of you. However. some of you are in your 50s, and it seems there it should be more sophisticated.
Howie: (Understood what the other judges said, and understands the cheerleading as a form of entertainment), but it COULD be better.
(Remember the winners will be headlining AGT shows all over America, including a show in Vegas. I don't think that many could take 90 minutes of cheerleading.)

Segment #2

Alice Tan Ridley (subway singer - Mother of Gabby - the girl who played "Precious")
Gladys Knight song, "Midnight Train to Georgia"
Standing Ovation, including judges.
Sharon: I want to be on that train with you. (Alice is 57yo). You are the embodiment of sole. You did it right. You took care of your family, now you're taking care of you.
Howie: You know that pride you felt for your daughter at the acadamy awards? If you're daughter is watching, I think she feels the same for you, tonight.
Piers: Watching you tonight, and comparing, I see a red carpet in your future, when people are saying to her, Hey, you're Alice Tan Ridley's daughter.
(Very soulful rendition.)

Segment #3

Mona Sampath Dance Company (East meets West Bollywood-style dance group)
Howie: I understand what you're doing. We love that you melded Bollywood with the modern. I just don't think it was as good as last time. If you're lucky enough to stay in, go for the wow.
Piers: Don't listen to him. What he knows about Bollywood could be written on the back of a matchbook. He could not be more wrong. It was miles better.
Sharon: It was very very exciting to watch. I love all the age-groups and the colors. I love what you're doing. I know you're coming back, and I would like to see more traditional dance, that's just my taste. (Piers: Less traditional, more Black Eyed Peas)
(I thought it was a little slow until the BEP part, but that didn't last very long. They do look and dance very well...)

Segment #4

Iron Horse (Rockabilly Band)
Sharon: These guys turn music into a spectacle. I can't wait to see what they do tonight.
"Just Another American Saturday Night"
Piers buzzed
Piers: I think the stage tonight was too big for you, and you went back to being a good bar band.
Sharon: Too many moments during your 90 second set, there were gaps... you were setting up your trick, etc. Concentrate more on the singing and less on the tricks.
Howie: Because you split to do tricks and not singing... I don't know if it's your mic technique or what, it's hard to understand you. That said, I love the enthusiasm.
(The guys mentioned that trying to do a 3 minute song in 90 seconds, including the tricks in the song, is difficult.)

Segment #5

The Strong Man (obvious, isn't it? LOL)
He's a nurse. (Do not try any of this at home.)
Lifts a motorcycle over his head. Lifts the back of a car and moves it.
Piers buzzed.
Flips the car himself.
Sharon: Well, well, well. I didn't know what you were going to do with that car. You can do some very interesting things with those moscles. I think with a huge production, you can do a lot of stuff.
Howie: It's amazing. I haven't wrapped my head around whether it's a show or not. I want to see our production people move that car, now.
Piers: I'm not sure how amazing that is. There are people in South Beach that do that every night. My biggest problem is you. The showman. The frontman. If you're going to take this on, you have to be exciting. And you're dull. Just be entertaining... More interesting.
(I can see this in a big production, but by himself, it is a bit boring.)

Segment #6

Recorded how many production crew it took to move the car. There were 15-20 moving the stuff.

Ronith (funnily bad impressionist/almost an actor)
Comic Impressions.
John Wayne. Cowboy had, moving really slowly. Piers buzzed.
Jim Carrey. Ahnold. Sharon buzzed.
Charlton Heston in Ben Hur.
Sylvester Stallone as Rambo in First Blood.
(OMG. GOTTA be an act they voted through to
Howie: Piers doesn't get it. Bad is good, right?
Piers: I've seen you do about 30 impressions. And you just go "Huhhh huhhh". You're the worst impressionist I've ever seen.
Sharon: All I want to know is what were you doing (Jim Carrey). I thought it was a monkey.
(He reminds me of Andy Kauffman as Latka doing impressions, but worse.)

Hannibal Means (Singer)
Howie: He scares me. Hannibal is a human thrill ride, thought I don't want to ride him.
(Crochets his own hats! Makes his own costumes, I believe. I think he made all the Lion King hats for the dancers tonight.)
Lion King "Circle of Life" with an operatic voice.
Piers: This show is getting crazier by the minute. You were standing on the podium being crazy, and people were dcaning crazily... And yet, you are an amazing singer.
Sharon: (pointed out his voice)
Howie: What planet are you from. (I think you'll have to figure that out for yourself.) And that's the story for the kids... Don't do drugs, just watch AGT.
(He has a VERY strangely engaging personality. Chris says he reminds her of a Genie in a Bottle. His voice kinda reminds me of the great Gildersleeves. Voice and personality - Pretty Vegas-y. We'll see.)

Segment #7

Wreckless
No dance studio/professional training. Opportunity is great for us. All from violent neighborhood. Did it all on their own, many times outside.
Sharon: I think Wreckless considering we're talking about a dance group that never had a dance studio, you did it all dancing. I just love seeing you like this on a stage with all the costumes. I think you still have the edge.
Howie: I didn't see the edge. And that's why we voted you through. I think you lost some of that edge.
Piers: At this stage in the competition, I look for acts that can fill the stage. And at the end of the act, I completely agree... with Sharon.
(Strange dance, but enjoyable. And they CAN "fill a stage".)

Segment #8

Lil Chris (12yo singer) (from Florida)
"I Just Can't Stop"
Howie: You're really talented for a 12yo. And this is new to you... You're a little raw, I don't know if this was your best performance... You've got to spend all your time practicing, if you are voted through.
Piers: I agree. What we have is a very young talented man.
Sharon: For 12 years of age, you held your own. The audience was with you. It's hard to dance and sing at the same time. I think you did fantastically.
(Reminds me of a very young Usher. He was off a slight bit, but he's got something...)

Segment #9

AscenDance (Wall-climbing dancers)
Added two new dancers to the act.
Piers: If you'd come to me and you told me what the act was, I'd have thought you were crazy. But there's something about this. I see it's very evokitive. I have never seen this before.
Sharon: It is so moving to watch. The coordination, the timing is perfection.
Howie: You don't know how grateful we are to witness this. Unique, passionate, perfection, and the fact that you two had two children and were able to put them on the wall (both of the others are shorter than they)...
(This is a lot like Fighting Gravity. In fact, those two acts, together would be a fantastic draw in Vegas. But, here, they are competing. I think they stand a good chance.)

Segment #10

Antonio Restivo (Danger act - Fire/Magician)
Sharon: Woh Antonio. That was hot. In your 90 seconds, I liked all your actions, there was not any dead air. And of course, the music was sensational.
Howie: That act was 100% Las Vegas. And I think your dad was right to back you. Do you feel him here tonight?
Piers: But are you a big enough showman? What you did tonight says you are.
(He's got a Gene Simmons look to him... There's something very charismatic about him and his fire.)

Segment #11

Michael Grimm (singer)
Howie: I sense he's had a lot of pain in his life. It comes through. I love to listen to him.
Welfare wanted to take him and his sister. His grandmother saved them. He wants to put his grandmother into a new house.
"Tired of Being Alone"
Howie: First of all, you clean up nice. You seem a little more like a star. Personally, in this whole competition, you are my favorite singer. Very soulful.
Piers: I think we're going on a bit of a trip with you, aren't we? becuase you're very different from the first two times we saw you. One of the best singers we've had in this competition EVERY.
Sharon: To be a great soulful singer, you have to have suffered in your life, and I can hear it. Like Piers said, you can't sing with your eyes closed all the time, you have to connect with us.
(Chris says he reminds her of a young Springsteen. I HEAR a young Michael McDonald.)

Chris: Alice Tan Ridley, AscenDance, Antonio Restivo, Michael Grimm
Me: Alice Tan Ridley, AscenDance, Antonio Restivo, Michael Grimm

Tomorrow, the Results show with Cirque de Soleil, and Train

Cya, then ;-)

Segment #1

Four of last night's acts will move on to the final 12.
Three by America's votes, the last one by Judges.

First group out: Nathanial Kenyon, Airpocalypse, Sally Cohn
America has voted. The act going into the semi-finals is: Nathanial Kenyon
This is an enormous relief. I'm just ready to come back NOT sick, and give a great vocal performance.
(Well, unless reprieved by Simon or another producer, I guess one of our selections, Airpocalyps, didn't make it.)

Segment #2

Orville Lounge review
Selina Gomez & the Scene performed "Round and Round"

Segment #3

Next group out: Nick Pike, Kung Fu Heros, Fighting Gravity
Sharon: (How'd they do) Fighting Gravity was mind-blowing. Kung Fu Kings did better in the audition, but you have it in you. and Nick, you set yourself on fire. And once you do that, where are you going to go.
Second act moving on to the semi-finals is: Fighting Gravity
Nick Cannon: You have quite the temper. I'd call you a hot-head.
Nick Pike: I do apologize for what I said last night. I think you were right, after reviewing the tape.
FG: It's an honor to be here.
Howie: Not only is it the right result for tonight, but you guys have what it takes to go all the way.

Next group out: Christina & Ali, Maricar, Hot Shot Tap Dancers
Howie (who did enough to make it to the last round?) Each of you gave it your all, and it's like a pawn shop... we have to give up something of value to get something. I don't know what "enough" is.
Next act moving on to the semi-finals is: Christina & Ali.
(Another of our picks. Good. The tap dancers are good, and Maricar is sexy, but...)
Piers: (Advice) You've won the hearts of America. But now it gets tough. There are brilliant singers here. You have to go off and practice, practice, practice, and get your performance to their level, which is high.

Segment #4

Nick with the last three remaining Paul Safy, Jr, Future Funk, RNG.
Rock of Ages (Constantine from AI and band from Broadway) perform "I Want To Rock" with Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister (originators of the song) followed by "Don't Stop Believing" (Journey/Glee) with Emily ???.

Segment #5

Last group called out: RNG, Paul Safy Jr, Future Funk
(Judges decide this one going through)
Sharon: Persoanlly, I feel really bad for Paul because he's stuck between two of the cutest acts we have. Each deserves to be here. Now it's make or break it time.
Based on America's votes: The act LEAVING the competition is: Paul Safy, Jr. (OMG!)
"Biggest stage I've ever been on. Opportunity of a lifetime, and it's definitely not the end for me."
RNG: I think we did enough to make it through. We tried our hardest.
FF: I think they should pick us because we are different. We do comedy, we dance, we're the whole package.

Segment #6

Judges have now had a chance to choose.
Piers: This is very difficult. Two very talented acts. Girls are technically better. Boys are funny... One I like most: Future Funk.
Sharon: Because of technical ability, it has to be RNG.
Howie: I have little girls, and I really love you. You guys are so adorable, and I love you, Future Funk. (Show ended RIGHT after he said that.)

So, the first four semi-finalists are:
Nathaniel Kenyon
Fighting Gravity
Christina & Ali
Future Funk

Next quarter-finals show is next Tuesday.
See ya, then!

America's Got Talent (AGT) (2010) - July 13, 2010 (Live #1)

Hollywood, Baby! Live Episode #1! The first xxx acts perform for YOUR(Our) vote.

12 Quarterfinalists. 4 move on.

Segment #1

Nick interviews the judges (Piers, Sharon, and Howie), and asks them what they are expecting tonight.
Three "X"s mean the act is over, but America can still vote them in.

Kung Fu Heroes (team of six)
Using real weapons tonight.
They do kung fu moves to music, so it's a dance of sorts.
War hammer, whip, spears, scimtars, flips, etc..
Piers: I've got to be very careful, because if I say the wrong thing, you'll kill me. It wasn't an entertainment routine,

it was a martial arts routine. It wasn't as
Sharon: I must say it was more of a Martial Arts exhibition. When you come back, I want to see more choreographed.
Howie: I agree with my cohorts. I've gotta figure out the niche. Will America come see the show? It's Power Rangers with no

shirts and eye shadow, is what it is.
(They did a good job, but was more "routine" than a dance. It's entertaining once, but for multiple shows?)

Segment #2

Chistina & Ali (sisters with Cystic Fibrosa) (Singers)
Difficult song tonight.
"God Blessed the Broken Road (That Led Me Straight to You)"
Sharon: Every time I see you two, you make me smile. When you perform it's such a positive performance. I'm not going to

say anything negative.
Howie: You are so beautiful and inspirational, whether there was a not missed or not, it really doesn't matter.
Piers: It does matter, it's a talent competition. Lets' concentrate on your singing. You were very nervous. Once you got

together on your harmoies, I really started to enjoy it. You were better than your audition, and that's what we're looking

for.
(VERY nervous, but when they got together with the harmonies, it was fantastic.)

Segment #3

Airpocalypse (Air band - no instruments)
People don't take them seriously. But they don't want people to think they are not serious.
To prepare, it's been constant focus, new stage, doing something they've never done before.
"Final Countdown on Spanish Guitar -> Final Countdown ROCKIN' -> My Sharona" Girls on stage with them, fireworks at the

end.
Howie: I gotta tell you, since you've been on the audition, I've been on Twitter. There's contoversy. I am here. I'm

entertained. It's up to America.
Piers: 1/2 the acts on the charts lip-synch. What's the difference between them and what you do?
Sharon: when you left your drum riser, you ran through your drum kit (air). You have to go around it. (I kicked it over.)

You are great actors. It's about acting. It's not serious, it's fun. And you are great actors.
(They're good at what they do. Not sure if it would weear for a full-length show, though they apparently get 30,000 people coming to see them in concert...)

Segment #4

The Hot Shot Tap Dancers (Three brothers and a sister)
Dream has always been to be dancers, since they were little.
Howie: A lot of pressure on them. Because ANY mistake can send them home.
Piers: You looked great, love the costumes. My issue is what we call in Britain "Umphf". It seemed a little safe. And to do a dance act, you have to explode.
Sharon: I loved it. I loved your relaxed style, and also you made it very current. I think that this will make tapping very current. You're really cool.
Howie: I like the blend of the classic past (the dance) with the music. I think with this choreography that you spent too much time with it. You should have concentrated more on the dancing. Sometimes you try too hard and you try in the wrong direction. But you're great. I hope you make it.
(The "story" that Howie was taliing about was a bit much. They do want to tell stories with their dancing, but it didn't work for me. The dancing, though, did.)

Segment #5

Paul Safy, Jr. (Singer) (from Buffallo, NY)
Sacrificed family life. Jobs that are flexible. Missing holidays (haven't been home for Thanksgiving for three years).
Life is about hard work, I'm ready.
"Cry Me a River"
Sharon: You have a great tone in your voice, the classic "Vegas" sound. I think your performance is a bit dated for your age. I think you need to work on your delivery. You've got the chops. Get more current with your approach.
Howie: I'm not sensing a "signature sound" or as Piers called it "Umphf". It was a bit cheesy.
Piers: I like cheese. There's nothing wrong with cheese. Buble is cheesy. You need to relax. You have to let the performance come to you. Chill out a little, and you'll be fine.
(Very "big band" sounding... Sinatra, Bennett, Buble, etc. The singing was great... The movements was the "cheese", I think. LOL)

Segment #6

Future Funk (5 & 10yo - Hip-hop dancers)
Audience likes it, and chants "Future Funk"
Howie: You guys are great, you're wonderful, you're so entertaining.
Piers: You are histerical. You've got something you can't give people - Star Quality.
Sharon: Could you just remind me how old you are again? 5 & 10. Are you dating? (Howie: Do you like girls? no) Amazing. Sensational.
Nick: Where's the after-party. (Kids: At the hotel!)
(Cute, but I don't know...)

Sally Cohn (hand-whistler)
Howie: She is unique. I personally believe that there's a place in show-business for quirky people.
(before she does her thing)
Audience, standing ovation
Nick comes out - Great song selection. A little more money for my wife (was a Mariah Carey song - I didn't recognize it.)
Piers: That is one of the best... That is THE best rendition of that song (Mariah Carey's song). How do you feel (Jubilant. My inner kitty-cat is purring. Oh is it purring.) How do you describe hand-whistling. (A form of music, I can use to entertain.)
Sharon: I'm speechless. I don't know what to say, except that you will probably bring hand-whistling to the forefront in America.
Howie: You're a dirty girl... Here's my thing... I love you. This lit up the twitter boards. You've got a great personality. If you were on the Tonight Show, I'd tune in to see what you had to say. If you were at Oz-Fest, I'd go see you.
(Missed a few notes, but personality-wise, she's got it. And she IS pretty good at the hand-whistling - Best I've seen - Like I've seen a lot of them. LOL)

Segment #7

Nick Pike (Juggler/Acrobat) - Not in top 48. One of the danger acts (the guy and girl) had to withdraw. That put him back in the show.
Pushing the limits tonight to do the most dangerous performance of his life. Added fire to everything.
Nick Cannon: Everyone, Do NOT try this at home!
Piers buzzed. 6' flaming unicycle, juggling flaming batons, set his pants on fire. Nick put them out.
Sharon: Nick. That was just 90 seconds, right? Yes with one week's practice. They said you had to be on fire to go to the semi-finals.
Howie: here's the thing. I think you're incredibly talented. That said, it's too much. I couldn't tell what you are - a juggler, an acrobat, or what? I don't know how to frame this act. I think you'll find that America loves it.
Piers: I wasn't. I thought it was a bit of a shambles, the whole thing. If you take the fire out, you have some mediocre juggling, you jumping through a hoop...
(It was ok. A bit frenetic. I think the "danger" part in it tonight was setting his pants on fire at the end of the act.)

Segment #8

RNG (young dance group)
Judges said "go hard or go home" (problems with a lift. Dropped her once)
Nightmare - one girl the others as Zombies.
Howie: here's the thing - I think you have a great future in dance. It felt like a dance recital.
Piers: I agree with Howie. What Howie and I felt was that you're not quite there, yet. I think you should go away, and try again (they're all 11).
Sharon: The problem, at your age, is coming up with a dance that is appropriate. I think you did tonight. You all danced well.
(It was ok. They ARE young, and it was "appropriate" for their age. Maybe that was why it didn't click so much with me.)

Segment #9

Maricar - Painter
Brought "sexy" back to painting.
She's painting underwater this week.
Drew Piers.
Howie: I have to say you have a terrific pair of lungs.
Sharon: I applaud you because you have made art Sexy. I know you couldn't practice this except in your tub.
(It wasn't THAT great. She should have been in a bikini... But the art was good.)
We'll find out tomorrow night who made it through.

Segment #10

Fighting Gravity (black-light dancers)
A frat that put this together on a lark.
Audience: Standing Ovation
Howie: I just wanna say, again, you blew me away. The most unique thing I've seen with a black-light.
Sharon: Incredible. And the prospects for this act are endless. I've just got to say, Blue-man Group and Circue de Soleil move over.
Piers: Sheer uniqueness and technique, that was the performance of the night.
(They're in for me. When I saw the COMMERCIAL for AGT this year, and they were on, I thought "VEGAS".)

Segment #11

Nathaniel Kenyon
Sings at a home for the elderly every Saturday night.
Used to singing for 10 people .
No rehersal today... Throat on fire... And sick, now.
Say a prayer, hope for the best.
"Lips of an Angel"
(He has a Rob Thomas voice)
Howie (wearing a mask): Under the circumstances, I think you've done a wonderful job. Young girls are going to love you (screams from the audience). I just have to say, Justin Bieber just called... He wants his hair back. (Nate: Mr Clean just called...)
Piers: I'm not gonna kid you. That wasn't the best vocal performance. However, I think we're beginning to see in you, the flowering of a pop star. You've got something. You've definitely got someting.
Sharon: You've got the "it" factor. And if this wasn't good, I can't wait to see you go on, and I know you will.

Damn... Only four will make it through... That's tough. There are a LOT of good acts here, or acts I'd like to see again.

Our votes for tonight:
Me: Christina & Ali... Airpocalypse... Fighting Gravity... Nathaniel Kenyon...
Chris: Christina & Ali... Airpocalypse... Fighting Gravity... Nathaniel Kenyon

We'll see who makes it through, tomorrow, Live again.

C'ya, then. ;-)

America's Got Talent (AGT) (2010) - July 6, 2010 (Vegas, Baby!)

Vegas Week at the Palms Casino Resort

Segment #1

Howie: Every one of you deserves to be here. ... We reviewed all the acts, again, and have made some decisions. We have to choose those worthy of going on and becoming part of our top 48. We have separated you into three groups - Group A, B and C. Every one of Group A ... is going to perform tonight, because we feel they have the best shot making it.

Sharon: I'm sorry. But I really don't have good news for you. We don't feel you are as good as Group A. Therefore, after group A performs, if there are any spots left, it may be one, it could be 10, it depends on how Group A performs tonight, we will start drawing from Group B.

Piers: Group C. You were, in many ways the most difficult category. We looked at (a lot of stuff), and as a result...

Magician's union called and said he wasn't revealing his tricks. (???)
(Tried a different tact - Wasn't funny, tonight)
