Season 7 Highlights

Montage of some of the acts (a mix of winners, losers, and from last night)

The acts from last night are:
David "The Bullet" Smith (Human Cannonball)
All That! (Cloggers)
Ulysses (Singer/Entertainer)
Joe Castillo (Sand Artist)
Sebastian "El Charro de Oro" (10yo Mariachi)
Eric Dittelman (Mind-reader)
William Close (Makes instruments and plays them)
Unity in Motion (dance group with
Eric and Olivia (Guitarist and Singer)
Lyndsey Norton (Solo Dancer)
Horse ("King of the Nutshot")
Olate Dogs (Dog Trick Act)

My four from last night: Joe Castillo, William Close, Unity in Motion, Olate Dogs

The votes are in.

Howie: I think this was twofold. I think America had the best and worst night. Best night of entertainment, and worst night only choosing four.

First group up: Ulysses, Olate Dogs, and David "The Bullet" Smith
Sharon: (thoughts?) Before I start on what I predict here. I apologize, Ulysses, it was your moment. Olate Dogs, you know how I feel about dogs. And David... I have no NO CLUE who will go through.
America has voted. The act going through to the semi-finals is: Olate Dogs
OD: Words can't explain how we feel. We put a lot of work into these dogs.
Sharon: I am more than delighted. I cannot wait to see you perform again.
(I think America got it right. David Smith was good, too, but again, I think it's a finale act.)

Next group: William Close, Unity in Motion, Sebastian "El Charro De Oro"
Howard: You have three great acts, there. Unity in Motion, I'm so proud of you. Sebastian, you know I love you. William Close, you took my advice and added a group. Here's the bad thing: Three great acts, and two are going home.
The act going through to the semi-finals is: William Close
WC: The competition is amazing. I'm honored to be moving on. Thanks to the judges. You guys made some beautiful comments, yesterday.
Howie: You are truly an original. That's what this show celebrates. As Howard said, we would all put up our own money, I don't think we'll have to.

Next group: Joe Castillo, Eric and Olivia, Horse
Howie: (thoughts) Extreme difference in these acts... Eric and Olivia, I don't want you to take what I said about coffee house wrong. I just think that music is more suited. Horse, I think it would be irresponsible for us to let you go on. And Joe: You have a great message, and do wonderful work.
Americ has voted. The act going into the semi-finals is: Joe Castillo
JC: Honored, humbled, very happy.
Howard: You really are a guy with a heart. But you pick these themes that we respond to. You are an amazing talent. I think you're going to go all the way.

Eric Dittleman, Lyndsey Norton, and All That
Less that 1% separate all three of these. The judges can only choose between two.
America has voted. The act leaving the competition and going home is: Lyndsey Norton
Nick: Why should the judges put you through?
Dittleman - I think what I do is pretty unique for the show. This is my life dream. Can't wait to show you what I have next.
All That! - We know what it's like. We've planned ahead. We will blow your mind next time if we come back.

Segment #6

America voted them into 4th and 5th place last night.
Howie: You wanna do what's right for America. America loves you both the same. Dittleman, what you do each and every time, you boggle my mind. All That! Again, I have not watched clogging done with all male troup. I just wanna do what's right, but I have to go with my own instinct. What is the act I'm dying to see again? Dittleman
Sharon: So hard. As Howie said, it's so close. I'm going to go with All That!
Howard: I think you're both terrific. I can't believe I like clogging so much, but I have to tell you, who would I got see? And that would be Dittleman.

Sharon: WAIT WAIT WAIT... There's a wildcard show coming up soon, and the judges get to pick. My first pick is All That!

So, making it through tonight are:
Olate Dogs
William Close
Joe Castillo
Dittleman

Next couple of weeks on NBC, the Olympics. AGT will return in August (14th), with the YouTube/Snapple show.

America's Got Talent (AGT) 2012 - 07/24/2012 - (Last) Live Quarterfinal Show #4

From NBC:
All AGT Videos
Season 7 Episodes
Season 7 Highlights

Montage of some of the acts (a mix of winners, losers, and from tonight)

12 acts tonight, 4 will go through
3 "X" and act is over, but America can still vote on them.

Segment #1

David "The Bullet" Smith (Human Cannonball)
This is done outdoors. 40 yards distance... 70 feet or so in the air... 50MPH in a VERY short time... through what appears be semi regulation (thinner - I assume in case he hits them) goal posts... he carries a football with him to make a "Human Field Goal"... And HE MAKES IT!

Commercials
Segment #2

Judges on David Smith
Howard: People don't understand how dangerous it is what you do. I happen to know that 80% of those who try it are DEAD. We put you right though last time. I know your sister broke her back three times... People have to vote.
Sharon: When we were looking at you, I thought you went past the net. I have come up with an idea for you. When you come back, you need to fly over a bed of alligators on fire...
Howie: What you do is amazing. So it is great. I want people to vote... What if you actually shot yourself out of Nick Cannon (This is a family show.) What will you do next?
(I think this is a great finale act, but headline? It's such a quick act, like Dr Splash last year. He's probably only going to do one shot per show, so what's the rest of the time taken up with?)

Next: All That! (Cloggers)
(To Black Betty by Ram Jam)
Sharon: I think you're incredibly manly, I love all the tattoos. I'd like you to come back with mega-trousers with no shirt... and leather.
Howie: I think what you do is amazing. I never knew anybody in a clogging club. I think the downfall is that you are on the night when we have some of the most original, unique acts. I wish you the best of luck.
Howard: I think Howie and Sharon have it right. Sharon's looking for more, Howie said America has to vote. I don't know if you did enough to get through. It's going to be tough.
(They're DAMN good. For now, they're my top choice.)

Commercials
Segment #3

Ulysses (Singer/Entertainer)
(Howard says his mission is to get rid of Ulysses tonight)
Ulysses does Bandstand
Howard buzzed.
Sharon buzzed.
Howie buzzed right at the end.
Howie: I was ready to come to fisticuffs with Howard. Here's the thing. I say this over and over again... If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Howard: We live in a country going through tough times... We have a bad economy, terrorists, and now we have this. This wasn't fair to the other acts with more talent.
Sharon: Before I loved what you did. I loved the look before. Now you look like Yogi Bear in a suit.
Howard: He's a great guy to see in a small club.
Sharon: When you were doing requests of old-time shows, that's what I loved. It didn't work tonight.
(I thought his singing was pretty good. Bandstand IS an old show theme. I guess they just didn't like him being dressed up (in a tourquoise tux!), and all the kids behind him danceing. Howard's right in some respects, but I think they put some people through so there's someone to vote AGAINST. Depending on how everyone else does, I don't know that Ulysses would have been voted down, but now, HOWARD has stated that he doesn't like him, so... (Did I say I didn't like Stern's radio show... He seems to be doing ok, here, but there are times, when he and Howie "feud"... And he acts like HE is the producer of the show, instead of just a judge. :-P)

Commercials
Segment #4

Joe Castillo (Sand Artist)
Howard: You continue to amaze me. I don't know of anyone else who could sculpt in sand and move me like you. You're unique and amazing and people should vote for you. The only bad thing is that beret.
Sharon: You really touched my heart. That was beautifully executed.
Howie: It's one thing to have a talent. It's another to have a message. You have combined them both.
(I love this guy's work. I've seen it before on the internet - him or someone else that does it. It's fantastic, and as stated by someone, in time with the music. He should make it.)

Commercials
Segment #5

Sebastian "El Charro de Oro" (10yo Mariachi)
Sharon standing O
Sharon: What can I say. I honestly don't know much about Mariachi, but I love what you all do. You have such passion when you sing, and your voice is really really great. You are such a special, special person.
Howie: I think you are one step closer to helping your brother. You have an old soul. You are like a male, Mexican, Jackie Evancho
Howard: You're a terrific kid, wise beyond your years, go figure that I would love it.
(The kid is good. We'll have to see if America votes him through.)

Commercials
Segment #6

Eric Dittelman (Mind-reader)
Standing Ovation by judges (and audience?)
Howard: I gotta tell you something. What a night of television. Incredibly tough. Congratulations. America, If you don't vote for him, something is wrong.
Howie: That was amazing. You are the real deal.
Sharon: Dittleman, i think that after tonight, all of America will be talking about Dittleman in the morning. Incredible. And remember, just Dittleman!

William Close (Makes huge instruments and plays them)
Howie: I want everyone in America to go to one of his concerts. You're not sitting there watching a show... You're part of the show.
The act begins. (Close has set up wires to the top of the theater, and plays them.)
Wow... (Rain on Me by The Who).
Standing Ovation by everyone.
Howie: I've never said this before. I got two words. We're done. I think you've won this whole contest. You are an amazing engineer. You are an amazing musician. You are amazing.
Sharon: It's like there have been a couple of times on this show that I have seen something that is totally amazing. But I have never seen anything that performs at this professional level. You are over and above anything I have ever seen on this stage. I bow down to you. You deserve everythying and more that this show can give you.
Howard: "Give him the million dollars" was my first thought. I joined this show because I wanted to find an extrordinary talent that I could crow about. If you're on a show and you're a judge, and believe in an act so much, let's see the judge put up his own money and produce a show. I think all three of us would do that.
(Wow. It doesn't REALLY translate well to TV, but it translates well enough! He's gonna be damn hard to beat. He's through!)

Commercials
Segment #7

Unity in Motion (dance group with contortionists)
Howard: I have said it every week, that these young girls are the best dance act we've ever had. Through the crumby luck of the draw, you're here on a night I have no idea who will make it through. You do everything we're looking for. These guys do deserve to go through.
Sharon: It was absolutely perfect. You're whole presentation.. .There's seven of you. Get all your friends to call. It's a really tough night.
Howie: I'm not in total agreement with Howard. I think the whole bar has been raised this season. People have been saying they've already seen the winner. They haven't. They can't win of you don't vote. If you want these people, you have to vote.
(They are excellent. It's hard to tell if they'll make it or not. They do deserve it.)

Commercials
Segment #8

Eric and Olivia (Guitarist and Singer)
(doing Like it's "Dynomite")
Sharon: Olivia, you have a great voice. It's an unusual voice. I can only keep repeating what we've been saying all night. Only four people can go through.
Howie: I think you're very talented. I think it's more of a stage or coffee house act than big stage.
Howard: I think there was no emotional connection in this song. Tonight might be a big disappointment for you guys.
(Yeah. I don't know about a main stage in Vegas, but one of the many secondary stages, I can see them going great guns in. Sorry guys. You're good, but there's just too many better ones tonight. And to be honest, with the arrangement done tonight, I couldn't hear Eric's guitar very well.)

Commercials
Segment #9

Lyndsey Norton (Solo Dancer)
Howie: It's undescribable. What Turf is to street, you are to classical. There's so many more than four. I don't know if you'll make it. You have to vote, America!
Howard: I'm trying to handicap this thing. And here you are... so terrific on such a night. Job well done.
Sharon: Everything about you is so lovely. I can't even put it into words. Every time I see you perform, I love you a little more. You should be representing America in the Olympics this year. You are extremely special, extremely talented.
(It's a tough night, and on almost any other night, she might have made it. But I don't think she will tonight. We'll see.)

Commercials
Segment #10

Horse ("King of the Nutshot")
Howard: You are a madman. You did not drop the ball tonight. Very few things make me laugh that hard. You either love it or you hate it. You heard the crowd cheering. I love it. Good for you. Job well done.
Sharon: Are your dangly bits throbbing? (Yes). I don't know what to say. You are entertaining.
Howie: Talent is subjective. This could be a classic. You could do the "Nutcracker Suite". I love it. If I could vote, I would vote.
(Ok... The guy can take shots to the nuts. It's like America's Funniest Videos and Jackass all in one, and continuously - Think a montage of nutshots.) Tonight he added a cheesy story to it. I guess if you like Jackass, where they actually try to hurt themselves or each other, then maybe you'd like him. Personally, it's not my "thing". Pretty "ballsy" of him, though, to try to create an act this way.)

Commercials
Segment #11

Olate Dogs (Dog Trick Act)
Standing Ovation by everyone
Sharon: What can I say. Listen to them. They are magnificent. I have never seen a dog act like this in my life.
Howie: They are truly amazing. We've seen dog acts through the years. I've never seen backflips. there's so much personality and athleticism with the dogs. The good news is you were great. The bad news is ANOTHER great act.
Howard: All of America knows how difficult this is and what a bond you have with these animals. America you've gotta vote. I can't wait to see how America votes. You deserve to get through.
(Wow... That was fast-paced, and something I haven't seen for decades. It brought me back to shows like The Ed Sullivan Show and other variety shows. Good luck guys!)

So the acts from tonight are:
David "The Bullet" Smith (Human Cannonball)
All That! (Cloggers)
Ulysses (Singer/Entertainer)
Joe Castillo (Sand Artist)
Sebastian "El Charro de Oro" (10yo Mariachi)
Eric Dittelman (Mind-reader)
William Close (Makes instruments and plays them)
Unity in Motion (dance group with
Eric and Olivia (Guitarist and Singer)
Lyndsey Norton (Solo Dancer)
Horse ("King of the Nutshot")
Olate Dogs (Dog Trick Act)

This is a TOUGH night. No one messed up like the last few weeks. And all but Horse were great. Yes, even Ulysses.

My four tonight: Joe Castillo, William Close, Unity in Motion, Olate Dogs

Right now, I see the Sand Artist, the Painter, Lightwire, William Close and maybe Olate Dogs in the finale. But things change. We'll see. They have the YouTube group and WildCards, so two shows before we start the final countdown.

Cya tomorrow for the results show. ;-)

The act going through to the semi-finals is: Jacob Williams

The judges will decide from #4 and #5
The act leaving the competition and going home is: Spencer Horsman
AWS: Being on AGT has given us the opportunity of presenting our act in an indoor venue. We will rise to the challenge.

Montage of acts who will perform next week

So for these two acts: All Wheel Sports and Wordspit adn the Illest (Came in 4th & 5th in audience vote)

Howard: Difficult decision. I love both acts. They performed very well, far as I'm concerned. AWS: You're incredible athletes. Tough decision, but I'm going to have to pick Wordspit. I'm into risk. I think we need a band.
Howie: AWS - What you did last night is spectacular. Never before have we seen this. Wordspit. I think you misinterpreted. I loved the original song. But I'm a judge of this contest. I'm giving you rules that could work for you. Based on everythying I saw, the best marketed act, AWS.
Sharon: (decision is yours) Two very different acts. Two very talented acts. Others have already said all the good points and bad points... This is just... My decision is that I'm going to put through... All Wheel Sports.

So the acts going through tonight are:
Jacob Williams
Lightwire Theater
The Untouchables
All Wheel Sports

New set of 12 acts next week.
Cya then! ;-)

America's Got Talent (AGTT) 2012 - 07/17/2012 - 3rd Live Quarterfinals from NY

From NBC:
All AGT Videos
Season 7 Episodes
Season 7 Highlights

12 acts, four spots - the first three by America, the last (#4 and #5) by the judges.

Montage of the acts from tongight. (Too fast to get all the names, now.)

Segment #1

Howard: It's hard to know. We're going to see thrills, chills and spills. I'm really psyched.
If an act gets three "X"s, the performance is over, but we can still vote on them.

The Untouchables (dance group - 8yo and up)
Howard: I think America just learned why the three judges put you through unanomously. The level that you're dancing at at this stage is remarkable.
Howie: Traditionally, when I see a group of young dancers, it looks like a recital. I have to say it didn't look like that. It's amazing.
Sharon: You know that I adore you because of your youth, your enthusiasm, is always superb. Your choreography is so good and professional.
(These kids are VERY good. It will kinda depend on the other acts tonight, and how they all do.)

Commercials
Segment #2

Mike Price (Rock Star Juggler)
Sharon: I don't really know what I thought about that. It didn't work for me. I wasn't convinced.
Howard: I love what you do. I don't know anyone who juggles any more. I love what you do, I love your expertise. I don't think America will vote you through. I applaud you for being here.
Howie: The pressure of a live show, you make it or break it. And tonight, you broke it.
(When the act was over, I'm not sure the audience knew whether to applaud or not. He's really good, but it's hard to get a lot of interesting things in in 90 seconds. It seemed "flat" tonight. It's too bad. Like I said, he's really good.)

Commercials
Segment #3

Inspire the Fire (singing/dancing group)
Howie: I wasn't inspired tonight. I don't like the cheesiness and corniness of the glee club, which you looked like, but you brought street cred, etc. Tonight you were cheesy.
Sharon: I have to agree with Howie. when we first saw you, you had a great sincerity. It was very, very cheesy.
Howard: It's tough to pile on, I had similar feelings. You inspire the fire many times, but tonight the fire was put out.
(They LOOKED like a glee club choir tonight... The costumes, the dance movements, etc. Firework by Katy Perry might not have been a BAD choice, but the arrangement certainly didn't work. Sorry guys.)

Commercials
Segment #4

Christin Sandu (balance act)
He fell. Pressure of the show.
Howard: I "X"ed him. I had to. You're gonna be a great doctor, I'm sure. You're athleticism is great. It didn't work out tonight, I'm sorry.
Sharon: I can only imagine what you're feeling, but don't get too down on yourself. You should be proud you've come this far.
Howie: There's nothing any of us can say. You showed up, you tried it, you deserve a big hand from everyone. (Sharon and Howie, standing O with the crowd applause).
(Too bad. You should check out the videos of what he does. It's pretty amazing, in my thought. He didn't get completely to the "danger" part (for him)... It appeared he was adding fire around the base, and something he would be standing on at the top of his pile of round pipes and boxes, but at least he can go home. Said he'd either finish the act and walk up to the judges, or leave in an ambulance. I, personally, am glad he got to see the judges, though he didn't complete the act.)

Commercials
Segment #5

Elusive (break dancer)
Howie: I have to say that you - usually I don't like to combine the story line, yet your hearing loss, and then I watch your strength and ability. I think your competition is going to be Turf. I hope America puts you through for the dance off.
Sharon: You are inspirational. However, the moves - I've seen them before. Is this worth a million dollars? I don't know.
Howard: Something went wrong tonight. You have been amazing in the past. You've gotta do more.
(It was a little slow. He needed more "flash" moves, IMHO. The "strutting" got boring fast. Too many do that one. He's gotta do what it SEEMS that only he can do.)

Commercial
Segment #6

Jake Wesley Rogers (singer)
Howard: I don't think you connected to that song. You seemed a little angry, there.
Howie: I think you're very talented, but I didn't like the song arrangement. I think that this year, a singer's not going to win. If people like you and are attached to your personality, they're going to have to vote.
Sharon: I have to agree with Howard and Howie - I don't like the song arrangement. Of all the acts I've seen tonight so far, I'd put my money on you.
(Song was Toxic by Brittany Spears. Howard said he didn't think even Brittany liked the song. The arrangement was weird. He's a very good singer, but at this stage, it's song choice, and I don't think that one was a good one. He MAY make it, but...)

All Wheel Sports (stunt group - skaters, skateboarders, BMXers)
Sharon: My goodness me. What can I say. We've had a lot of extreme sports acts before. But we've never had an act like this that combines it all with sexiness. You guys are the first group to combine it perfectly and bring it to us.
Howard: I think you did a great job. What helped you tonight was you were in a smaller theater, so we could follow it. I don't know whether people can follow the three-ring circus
Howie: I agree with everything Sharon and Howard said. Me sitting here, I just saw a headline act in Las Vegas. I have to tell the people at home - I don't think it's a television act. The spectical was all around us. I have to tell them to vote for you.
(There was a lot going on. And TV couldn't follow them well, but we could see stuff happening in the background. Dancers/Cheerleader tosses, Trampolinists, BMXers, Skaters... They are GOOD, and they did an excellent job. I hope they do go through.)

Commercials
Segment #7

Wordspit and the Illest (band)
(They're doing an original song tonight)
Howie: I have to say, I was so excited the first time I saw you. By far you were and are my favorite group. Right now I'm kinda angry. I think you made the most disasterous choice, doing an original song. What America votes - I hate to say it, it's a popularity contest - and you just cut your chances in half.
Sharon: Your energy is fantastic. You got the audience on their feet. At home, they can't feel the energy, the emotion. Much respect to you guys, but it was a very big risk.
Howard: I think I live on another planet from these guys. You can write. This is a very very accomplished band. I love that you did an original song.
Band: We didn't want to come out and give you someone else. We wanted to come out and give you US.
(It was hard to hear the lyrics. My wife said it just sounded like it was thrown together. I think it could have sounded more polished, but with the audience, it was hard to tell. It was the last that I finally heard it was "Lights Camera Action" that was being sung. I couldn't understand the rap at all. I don't think they translated to TV well. Sorry guys.)

Commercials
Segment #8

Tomorrow: Havana Brown will perform, and the winner of this year's Britain's Got Talent, Ashley and Fuzzy will be here.

Jacob Williams (comedian)
(At end of act - Audience standing O)
Sharon: You are a bigger than odd ball. I do like you. You're very awkward, but I do like you. I think your material was ok, not brilliant, but you made me laugh.
Howard: I can see you as a guy with a long career. I think it's great that we have two super-talented comedians in this contest. I love what you're doing.
Howie: I agree with that guy (from the audience). You are the best act of the night. You have great material, but you're also a character.
(I thought he was pretty good. "Best act of the night", well, I don't think so, but I think he'll make it.)

Commercials
Segment #8

All Beef Patty (drag queen singer)
Audience standing O
Howard: She's all beef. She's Patty. I just wonder if she can go beyond the caberet performer and go bigger. I think there might be a bit of a problem. It's gonna be tough.
Howie: I was kinda disappointed that you didn't move. You didn't use the stage. Tongiht, without moving, you were just a cabaret performer, not Las Vegas.
Sharon: I think you look like a chunky Cher. I agree with Howie that you should have used the stage. I do hope that you come back, because I think you've lifted the show tonight.
(Yep. If "she"d have moved around more, then she may have made it through. Right now, though, with a hand mike, she just stood there like she had a stand mike and COULDN'T move. S/He can sing quite well, but I'm not sure it was enough.)

Commercials
Segment #8

Spencer Horsman (escape artist/magician)
Sharon: Firstly I applaud you because you are so young, and there are not many people your age keeping this going on. I think at home this would appear boring.
Howard: You're so great. Tonight we couldn't see you. It failed.
Howie: It became a magic trick rather than an escape. I didn't get what was happening. it was confusing.
(He's a magician/escape artist, Howard. It was a little slow once he was hooked up, but 45 seconds to get bored with it, Sharon? GEEZE! Talk about ADHD. And he did it with 15 seconds left! Yes. We couldn't see him this time, just a "wiggly shadow behind a screen", but for a full act, what's he going to do? Escape, escape, escape? Even Houdini did magic!)

Commercials
Segment #9

Last act tonight
Lightwire Theater (performance with blacklight)
Standing O by audience
Howie: What a way to end the show. WOW. You're going to the finals. That was spectacular.
Sharon: That was spec-tacular, in every sense of the word. The new characters you brought to us.
Howard: Now we're talking. Now we're getting somewhere. No disappointments here. That's a big stage show. That's a million dollar act. Congratulations. You worked hard. You made it.
(I liked it. It may be how it comes across on TV... I can see where it may have been even greater, live, but not QUITE as powerful as the judges were saying it. ;-) )

The acts tonight:
The Untouchables (dance group - 8yo and up)
Mike Price (Rock Star Juggler)
Inspire the Fire (singing/dancing group)
Christin Sandu (balance act)
Elusive (break dancer)
Jake Wesley Rogers (singer)
All Wheel Sports (stunt group - skaters, skateboarders, BMXers)
Wordspit and the Illest (band)
Jacob Williams (comedian)
All Beef Patty (drag queen singer)
Spencer Horsman (escape artist/magician)
Lightwire Theater (performance with blacklight)

My four: Untouchables, All Wheel Sports, Jacob Williams, Lightwire Theater.

Howard: It was a strange night. We saw some incredible talent, we saw some nerves, that's for sure. So many nerves, some people stumbled. You guys should all be proud of yourselves. It's anybody's game.

So... See you for the results tomorrow. ;-)

Segment #1

The first groups out: Tim Hockenberry and Turf
(WOW... Unless both make it through, this is a surprise.)
Sharon: I have to say that between Tim and Turf, I just can't call it. I'm very nervous.
The act going into the semi-final and moving one step closer to $1M and a headline show in Las Vegas is: BOTH OF YOU ARE GOING!
Standing ovation by the judges.
Howie: I want to say that I could not be happier. When those two came out on stage, I said to Sharon that one of them would be my wild-card. But America did my job for me.
(Way to go, America!)

Commercials
Segment #2

This week the contestents had to do some messing around with them=. Howie pretended to be a desk clerk, and used hidden cameras. I can't believe that no one recognized him, and did the things he asked.

Gavin DeGraw performs "Sweeter"

Commercials
Segment #3

Aftershow party in the Orville Lounge

Next group: Lisa Clark Dancers, The All Ways, Aurora Light Painters, Big Barry
(My guess is none of them)
Howard: (Can you call it?) Each of these acts had trouble last night. I think all four are in trouble, Nick. I don't know what America's going to do.
The act going to the semi-finals is: NO ONE.
Sharon: (Are you surprised?) To be brutally honest with you, Nick, I'm not surprised.

Next group: Tom Cotter, Lion Dance Me, Hawley Magic
(My choice: Tom Cotter)
America has voted. The act going through to the semi-finals is: Tom Cotter
Sharon: I called it I called it I called it. Congratulations, you deserve it.

Segment #5

The last three acts: Danielle Stallings, Donovan and Rebecca, Ben Blaque
This is the judge's choice, so there can only be two.
America has voted. The act leaving the competition and going home is: Ben Blaque
Donovan/Rebecca: We try to bring variety each time, and we have a lot of things to show. R: And there are many ways to lift Donovan.
Danielle: I think I'm the whole package. I have a lot more to show.

Next up: Judge's Choice

Commercials
Segment #6

Again, Judges are choosing between the acts America voted as #4 and #5 - Donovan and Rebecca and Danielle Stallings.
(My guess, here, is Donovan/Rebecca, but I don't know how the judges will vote.)
Howard: Two great acts here. Donovan & Rebecca. I have been dazzeled by you three times in a row. I've never seen anything like it. Danielle - You are so young, and so gifted and talented. Danielle, I think you're remarkable., I don't think it's your time, yet. I am going to say,  because I have to make a choice, D&R.
Sharon: D&R each time I see you, you bring something new. This is the only place we can see acts like you. Danielle. 14yo, and you're on your own. (She has trouble doing it.) My decision is to put Danielle through.
Howie: D&R, what you do is unique & original, and that's what this show is about. Danielle, you're young, and fantastic. I wish I didn't have to make a decision, but I do. Donovan and Rebecca.
So, Donovan & Rebecca. (Danielle cries.)

From tonight:
Turf
Tim Hockenberry
Tom Cotter
Donovan & Rebecca

All four my choices! ;-)

That's it for this week.

Cya next week! ;-)

America's Got Talent (AGT) 2012 - 07/10/2012 - 2nd Live Quarterfinal Show from NY

From NBC:
All AGT Videos
Season 7 Episodes
Season 7 Highlights

Live from the New Jersey Performing Arts Center
Next group of 12 perform tonight

Segment #1

Howie: (What can tonight's acts learn from last week's?) They have to watch what happened last week. If they don't step up, if they don't give it their all, they're going home.

LionDanceMe (Martial Arts Lion Dancing)
Howard: Congratulations on not falling. In Vegas you fell. Here's what I worry about with you guys. Week after week it's the same thing. I happen to love this. America gets bored easily. If you do manage to get one of the four spots, stop wearing the costumes. You got to make it a little different each time. I give you a 50/50 chance.
Sharon: It's the third time I've seen you perform. Maybe some of you should do some martial arts with the lions... Do it that way to make it a bit more different.
Howie: I agree... The athleticism is tremendous. But I got bored. I can't tell you for the life of me why that was different from the last time. I think you're in trouble tonight.
(It did seem to be pretty much the same thing. They're very good at it, but I don't think they could sustain a Vegas show.)

Commercials
Segment #2

Turf (Street Performing Contortionist/Dancer)
Howie standing ovation
Sharon: One guy with no help with nothing, no help but your background music. It takes guts and telent, and you've got both.
Howie: Seriously, there is so much emotion, so much passion in what you do. I cannot figure out how you do it. You seem to want this more than any other contestant in this contest this year. You're like a human Gumby.
Howard: You're an amazing talent. Keep your eye on Unity in Motion. They do a little of what you do, then they do strength.
(How this guy turns his arm around as far as he does is beyond me. It almost hurts to watch him, but like a car wreck - no allusions there... - my point is that) you just can't stop watching. He's a performer... He may make it. We'll see.)

Commercials
Segment #3

The All Ways (Rock Band)
Howie: I have two notes; I like them and that's why they're here. I like you as a rock-n-roll band. I think the song might have been too poppy. Plus I don't think a rock band should be named after a panty-liner.
Howard: I've been a fan all along. You've gotta pick your style. When I watch your band, I look at the lead singer and guitarist, and think if I want to be them, and I didn't want to be you tonight. Remember song-choice, committment and does anyone harmonize?
Sharon: I love your strength on stage. I love your enthusiasm. Song choice, though... I love the fact that you look like an 80s retro band. I hope they bring you back. Song, song song.
Howard: Don't be a bar band. Make the song your own.
(As they all said, song-choice. These guys are GOOD. The singer can hit notes only a few in rock can. If they make it, I hope they choose a good ROCK song - think Whitesnake.)

Commercials
Segment #4

Hawley Magic (Magician)
Howard: I like magic acts. I feel for you. The best magic act is getting out of your parents' basement. That's a little bit old-school to me, but it's going to be interesting how America votes tonight.
Sharon: One thing Howard said that bothers me - Your presentation. You're both young. Be cool. It's a little old-fashioned... You need to update it to this century.
Howie: I love the illusion. I've never seen the wife-kabob. I wish you the best of luck.
(Interesting. I don't recall seeing the "wife-kabob" either. It was pretty good. The presentation is a little dated, but everyone else is doing the flashy-type magic. This is pretty straight-forward. That may work in their favor.)

Commercials
Segment #5

The Lisa Clark Dancers (Dance Troupe)
(fusion of Jazz/Contemporary/Tap)
Howie buzzed just before the end
Howie: I was waiting for something, for you to step it up. You are tremendous dancers, but it seems like a young persons' recital.
Sharon: I think it's a full moon or something. You're all great dancers. We've seen you do different types of dance before. I didn't like the music... I thought it was a little old-fashioned. And that's not your fault, it's your choreographer's.
Howard: I think they're being a little too rough on you. Here's the problem - You're in the most difficult category we have. I think this is your last performance. And you're definitely better than a dance recital.
(It was a great dance. I kinda understand both Sharon and Howie, but sadly, I think Howard may be right, and they won't go through. I've only see one I'm sure will go through, and a couple of others that might. But there are seven more acts to go. We'll have to see.)

Commercials
Segment #6

Aurora Light Painting (Paint with light)
Mixed reaction - Howard buzzed.
Howie: I think that you have peaked. I think it was original... It's like Etch-a-Sketch in the dark. I didn't understand it what you showed me at the end.
Howard: It pains me to "X" you. You see a special effects movie because of the story. I think you're in huge trouble.
Sharon: You have a vision, but the vision isn't sophisticated enough, yet. You have a little doll, but it's not sophisticated enough... It's not sexy.
(I got the story. I think Sharon might be right - It's not sophisticated enough - but then they only have what? 90 seconds or so to get their story across? If they had longer, it might have been more "sophisticated".)

Danielle Stallings (14yo Singer)
Howard: I was going to say to you after seeing you twice, that you're talented but you're not memorable, but I think tonight, you ARE memorable.
Sharon: You have a huge voice. You're a real 14yo girl, and don't try to dress like an 18yo, and that voice that come out of you surprises.
Howie: You look beautiful. I'm on Twitter. ... from NY says "Dang this girl is good". I agree.
(I didn't really like the song, but she emoted and sang it well. She's better than some of the others. That's about all I'll say, here.)

Commercials
Segment #7

Donovan and Rebecca (Acrobatic/Strength)
Sharon: Every time we see you you do something different, always. I hope that it comes across as home how difficult this is. There's never any static moves, it's all seamless and fluid.
Howard: You're an amazing act. I've said it from the beginning. I love when Rebecca lifts you... when Rebecca shows her strength. Don't lose that part of your act.
(Beautiful. They are so graceful. And the switches between moves are so quick. They have a good chance if they continue to keep picking the right acts. If they change up too much, it could be death for the act, as it has for others before them.)

Commercials
Segment #8

Big Barry (Little Person Performer/Oldest Contestant)
Howard buzzes early.
Sharon buzzes in the middle.
There are some booes mixed in with cheers.
Howie: OMG. If Bob Dylan and the Easter Bunny had a baby... To be honest, you're not a good singer. But you are incredible novelty act.
Howard: This is about Howie. (Argument between Howie and Howard. Howard demanding that Howie apologize to Flo-Jo's daughter and all the other acts that couldn't go through because Barry did.) You're not funny and you're not talented.
Sharon: I think I said this to you before: You sing like you're on the toilet.
(He's not good. And it's not really that funny. I'm surprised at some of the acts they put through every year, and he's one of them. There are people with a LOT more talent that were not allowed to go through. I believe Howard lobbied for one of the same type, for some reason. Seems a waste of space to have those they KNOW America will not vote for when there are so many they KNOW America WILL vote for.)

Commercials
Segment #9

Howard and Howie are still arguing.

Tom Cotter (Comedian)
Howard: You are smooth. This is going to be the year that maybe a singer doesn't make it.
Sharon: You are a guy that has learnt his craft. Your timing is perfection. I can't say enough about how much I hope America votes you through.
Howie: I know what this must feel like. The pressure is tremendous. But you do not show it.
(He's good. Solid laughs through the whole act. Just bordering on racy. (I wonder if he's cleaned up some of it. There are those comedians who only go as far as he did tonight, never stepping over that line. I guess we'll find out later. I hope he makes it.)

Commercials
Segment #10

Ben Blaque (Crossbow specialist)
Sharon: Very good as usual, you're very exciting. It's great to watch... is he going to do it or is he not.
Howard: I have been a big proponent for you from the beginning. If anybody ever thinks this isn't dangerous...
Howie: The truth is that you are a great act. I loved it.
(He's good! Shot 4 balloons surrounding his assistant at the same time. And they are both good-looking people which makes it even more interesting. He's got a good chance.)

Commercials
Segment #11

Tim Hockenberry (Cocker-esque Singer)
Howie: Your voice is haunting. I didn't want you to be a Joe Cocker impersonator. You aren't. Your are Time Hockenberry.
Sharon: You remind me of a Van Morrison/Joe Cocker type - starting out older than most. It's taken you some time obviously. I loved it.
Howard: I think this was a misstep. It was not your best performance.
(Howard can F-Off. I thought he did a great job. I think Howard may not like the song or the original singer, and that carried over. Besides, Howie liked him, and Howard and Howie are fighting. Stern CAN be an ass, but he should keep that to his own freaking shows. Tim made the song his own, I think.)

The acts tonight were:
LionDanceMe (Martial Arts Lion Dancing)
Turf (Street Performing Contortionist/Dancer)
The All Ways (Rock Band)
Hawley Magic (Magician)
The Lisa Clark Dancers (Dance Troupe)
Aurora Light Painting (Paint with light)
Danielle Stallings (14yo Singer)
Donovan and Rebecca (Acrobatic/Strength)
Big Barry (Little Person Performer/Oldest Contestant)
Tom Cotter (Comedian)
Ben Blaque (Crossbow specialist)
Tim Hockenberry (Cocker-esque Singer)

My four: Turf, Donovan and Rebecca, Tom Cotter, Tim Hockenberry

Results show tomorrow.

Judges intro
Tonight, we'll also see Cirque du Soleil and Will.I.Am

Sharon: It's going to be really tough for those millions of Americans.

First Group
Michael Nejad, Shanice & Maurice, and Nikki Jensen
Quick montage of their acts and judge's statements last night.
Howard: I want to thank these three acts. Michael, I was tough on you last night. I think you're in for a real hard time tonight. Shanice & Maurice, I think you're the front-runners from last night. Nikki, I only wish you had been as good last night as you were in Vegas.

America has voted. The act going into the semi-finals is: Shanice & Maurice
Sharon, did America get it right? America always gets it right.
(Yeah, I think I have to agree from that group.)

Segment #3

Next group on stage:
The Scott Brothers, Lil Starr, 787 Crew
Sharon: (Difficult call?) Such a difficult call. I never thought I'd see these groups on the same stage at this point. I'm very confused right now.

America has voted. The act going into the semi-finals is: The Scott Brothers
Howie: (Did America get it right?) I don't think with talent, there's a right or a wrong. If you're asking if I agree with America, yes.
Howard: You guys are fabulous. And here's the thing, Nick. I think you guys can go all the way. You guys blew the singers away last night!
(From this group, I agree, again.)

Next group on stage:
David Garibaldi & his CMYKs, Jarrett & Roja, and American BMX Stunt Team
Howie: You liked them all. What do you think America thought. I don't know if the excitement level was the same on TV. Jarrett and Roja - I think you deserved better than you got. Garibaldi - You guys were great.

America has voted. The act going into the semi-finals is: David Garibaldi & his CMYKs
Howard: (Did America get it right?) You guys, last night, won the night. I wouldn't be surprised to see you in the top 5.
(And once more I agree)

Segment #4

Commercials
Segment #5

Next group on stage
Edon, Distiguished Men of Brass, Todd Oliver
Judges decide, picking from two acts
America has voted. The act LEAVING the competition and going home is: Distiguished Men of Brass

Edon, why should it be you: I feel like you should pick me, because I think you show undiscovered talent, and before my audition, I'd never performed in front of any live audience.
Todd - Yeah. Talking dogs make people laugh. Irving can speak for other dogs.

Commercials
Segment #6

Judges decide 4th & 5th in the audience vote
Howie: Who do you want to put through? This is no fun. People have so many different opinions. Todd, it's unique. Edon, I think what you did. But I have to go with what I said today - Edon in the Chosen.
Howard: That dog act is the best I've seen. Edon is a child prodigy... He's a child, though. He can sometimes get that high note... Darn it. I've got to go with what I said last night: Edon.

WOW... A winner right off.

Sharon: Absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, I would have voted for Edon.

(This one I'm not so sure about. I believe Todd's material was good last night and before. And he has a very unique act. Edon, I like, but the question is, better than Todd?) Ah, well. Maybe they'll bring Todd back, later. We'll see.)

So, going to the semi-finals tonight are:
Shanice & Maurice
The Scott Brothers
David Garibaldi & his CMYKs
Edon

I was CLOSE. Shanice & Maurice made it in, where I had Todd Oliver.

Next week, 12 more acts.

Cya then ;-)

Never before seen footage:
The judges talk about each other and Howard Stern joining them

Two more minutes, and the Live Show starts.
Commercials.

Segment #4

And the show begins following a montage of the acts, NY, the judges.
Going for $1,000,000 and a chance to headline a show in Las Vegas.
Judge intros.

Only four will make it through to the next round.
Three "X", the act is over, but America can still vote for them.

First Act
Distiguished Men of Brass
Howie: I think they did a really good job. The question is you have to take it beyond a marching show. I'm just being honest with you. I see potential.
Sharon: I'm judging you on what I saw tonight. You've got it going on. I love you.
Howard: This is about winning. For some reason on TV the big band sound gets muddled. Let a couple of guys do some solo work.
Feels great to be the first act on their new stage.
(They did a great job. But like Howard said, brass (marching bands) tend to sound muddled and you don't get the lows very easily. Maybe they need to mike the instruments.)

Commercials
Segment #5

Edon (14yo - Singer/KB player)
Sharon: Wow. Edon. What can I say. Amazing song choice. You hit every single note. You sang with great emotion. You were so good.
Howie: Did you get a standing ovation at your bar-mitzvah? You are terrific.
Howard: I heard you in rehersal. I criticised you earlier, I thought you were whiny. You hit every note. You're not a show-biz kid.
(Wow! The kid is GOOD!)

Commercials
Segment #6

Jarrett & Roja (Magicians)
Some boos, but
Howard: You heard the crowd. They turned on you. Bring the pizzazz you brought in Vegas.
Sharon: I thought it was Cheezy when you started singing.
Howie: I disagree with my fellow judges & the audience. I loved it. I thought it was good. I think there were some angles in the house where people saw how it was done. I don't think those at home did.
(It was ok. Seemed kinda typical.)

Commercials
Segment #7

Lil Starr (Dancer)
Tap Dancing tonight (to Party Rock remix)
Howie: You know something. You've gotta change your name - It's BIG Starr. I think you'll become the next Shirley Temple.
Howard: I have to be very very honest about this. Dance category this year is one of the toughest. Here's the problem. I don't think you're up to it. It's brilliant for a 6yo. You need a story - Cinderella or something like that.
Sharon: She doesn't need a story. With the personality... The way you shine. Your confidence... Do not listen to what Howard says.
(I thought she did an excellent job. Sharon is right.)

Commercials
Segment #8

Todd Oliver (Ventriliquist with live dogs)
Sharon: I've always loved Irving, and now we have Lucy. I love the idea of your act. The only weak point you have is maybe some of the material.
Howie: I agree. The act is great. I love that you stepped it up. I just wish that what you were saying, what they were saying, would make me laught.
Howard: What you need to do ... Maybe the dogs have to come out a little bit stronger. Who's the #1 enemy of dogs is Mitt Romney. Clearer on the ventriliquism and stronger on the material.
(I don't know... I thought the material was pretty good. The ventriliquism definitely is. I don't know what Howard, Sharon, and Howie were watching.)

Commercials
Segment #9

American BMX Stunt Team
Howard: First of all, I've loved you from the beginning. This is not necessarily my kind of act. You're still holding my attention and you're better than your main competitor.
Sharon: I know how dangerous this stage is. What you guys have done in this confined space... Well done.
Howie: The act seems to be stepped up BECAUSE we brought it inside. I hope America trusts in what we say. This is a good live show, and it deserves to go in.
(They ARE good. I think they need to have more colorful costumes, though.)

Nikki Jensen (singer)
Howie: I think you did wonderful. Critique you a little: You've gotta be a start. You have to be original. You've gotta grab them.
Howard: There's a front-runner in the singing category. Tonight I think you did a nice job. I don't think it's so memorable. I love your voice, but I didn't get the wow factor tonight.
Sharon: I think it was your performance. You were just standing. You are capable of giving us more. Work on your presentation.
(She did seem a little stiff. As one of the judges said, she's a little like Alanis Morriset. Song selection is key for her.)

Commercials
Segment #10

The Scott Brothers (sychronized dancing w/a bit of mime thrown in)
Sharon: That was very impressive. (Standing Ovation by audience). There are many people in this competition that are more athletic, quicker than you. But you are original.
Howie: Every move you do. It's not original. But the way you do it, it IS original. It's a great show.
Howard: You say they're not original but they're original. I say they're original and original. I told you earlier that I'm not a fan of dance. But tonight you hit it out of the park. When I see you, I know why I was tough on Lil Starr. Bravo.
(I thought they were REALLY good!)

Commercials
Segment #11

Micale Nejad (creates instruments from everyday items, and plays them)
Saxaphone out of a bat. Howard buzzed right away. Audience starts booing.
Violin out of a shovel. Howie buzzed when he played the vacuum cleaner sax.
Audience booes. Sharon buzzed at end.
Howard: Sometimes a baseball bat is a baseball bat. Sometimes a shovel is to dig your own grave, which I think you did tonight. If I was a priest, I would read you the last rites right now.
Sharon: Do you remember voting this gentleman through? (To Howard).
Howie: The reason we fought for you, because I think what you do is a real talent. But on the stage, it didn't work.
(The guy IS talented, making those instruments and playing them. But for a Vegas act? I don't know about that!)

Commercials
Segment #12

787 Crew (dancers)
Howie: You know I love your passion. The first two performances were better than this. The choregraphy was better. We saw spectacular moves.
Howard: I think you're in trouble tonight. Here's the problem. You do a lot of similar things each time I see you. We haven't seen a lot of different things.
Sharon: I don't think you're in trouble. Your look, your moves, are so different from any other group. I did agree with Howie that your last two acts were better. But you will make it through.
Howard: Constructive: Maybe one of you needs to come out front and solo a little bit.
(I've seen a lot of this type of dancing before. They're good, but... We'll have to see.)

Commercials
Segment #13

Shanice and Maurice Hayes (Father/Daughter singing duo)
Howie standing O with the audience. Sharon and Howard arguing.
Sharon: I've been a little worried about you guys, I love the fact that it's a father/daughter act and it's a little cheesy. I think that you nailed it big time tonight.
Howie: I was skeptical of you, sir. Tonight, no! You did not hold her back.
Howard: I was happy to see Howie was standing. Think a little more Sonny and Cher. You hold back a little, and let her shine.
(They were great tonight. I think Howard is right, though... If he lets her shine, instead of trying to be on an even keel with her, there may be no stopping them. He's good, too, but she's the superstar. Sonny needs to let Cher sing some solos.)

Commercials
Segment #14 (Hey... two-and-a-half hour show, though they did it more as a 1/2 hour and a 2-hour... remember? LOL)

Last Act
David Garibaldi and his CMYKs (Performer/Artist - They paint frenetically, but always end up with a great pic!)
Standing Ovation by audience and judges
Howard: Ok boys, if I were a woman I'd marry you. I love you.
Sharon: You are rock and roll. I love you.
Howie: Each and every time, you put a twist on it. I love it.

Howard listed the four he thinks will go through. I don't believe that's fair. He has a pretty strong influence in NY, and it's unfair to any act on the show if he says certain people are GOING to go through. The judges can judge, but they can't SAY someone will make it through. Part of the problem they had with Piers was that sometimes, he could/would suggest someone should NOT make it through, and they would, simply because of over-reaction to his negativity. Howard may be the opposite.

I have no power, though, and I don't have millions of readers, so I can put my four here! LOL

America's Got Talent (AGT) 2012 - 06/25/2012 - Vegas Week Show #1

I waited until now to start the review blog, as this is the first set of Vegas Week. The earlier shows are always frenetic, and it was a lot harder to keep track of who is going on and who isn't during the montages. And we didn't always get the names.

Judges are: Howard Stern (he's done a pretty damn good job, I believe), Sharon Osborne and Howie Mandel.

Everyone gathers together and the judges speak to them from the balcony. There are two groups: Judges' favorites - The ones they feel are the acts going through to the live shows. They will perform first. Stand-bys - The stand-bys will perform second for the remaining spots. Everyone is to go to a waiting area and read the lists. If their name is not on any list, they will not perform in Las Vegas, and will go home today.

July 27th - Vegas Week - They send some home, still, and some go on to the live shows without being seen again. There are 45 slots for the live shows.

We are not seeing the full act, but are seeing enough...

Luiz Mengihan(sp? Sorry if it's wrong)
Andrew De Leon (Goth opera singer - Sings female part - audition was first time he'd ever sung in front of anyone - Howard said he blew it. Sharon - Such an individual ... so unique.)

I guess we'll see who gets through later this week. Most all we just saw did a good job, except for those whose nerves got to them. We'll have to see if they actually make it through.

There will be two more shows this week, Tuesday and Wednesday. See ya then. ;-)

RIP Shelby (d:09/26/2011)

Shelby - 05/14/2011
Shelby, a black-lab mix we had gotten from the Lafayette Humane Society a little after Christmas, 2002, died this morning.

When my wife moved up here in July, 2001, she'd had to leave her dogs. The cats we had were ok, but she really wanted a dog. So I promised her a dog for Christmas. Early in 2002, we began looking. We went to Lafayette, where my parents lived, and to Lafayette's Humane Society. We'd gone to look for a small dog, but they didn't have any at the time. Among the dogs they did have, this black lab was super friendly, and Chris decided she wanted her.

When we got her, we were told they thought she was 2 to 2-1/2 years old. Also, when we got her, they thought she'd been spade. We took her to the vet's, got her shots, and he said he thought she'd been spade., but I'm getting a bit ahead of myself.

Shelby was a "mama's dog", meaning she hung out around Chris all day, including "vulturing" from the back of the couch over her as she watched TV or read. (For those who remember, think of Snoopy on a limb or the back of a chair.)

2002
She also considered herself a lap-dog. Chris would get home from work, sit down, and Shelby would be in her lap, licking away. (I called her a Yaegermeister - you know... A black licker! LOL)

She was a pretty good dog. We'd take her out back, and if she wandered out of our yard, we'd call her, and she'd come running back to us. We tried to give her a "run" with a wire stretched across the yard, and a relatively long leash, so she had the run of most of the back yard. But the noise the wheel made on the wire scared her, so all we could do was tie her up.

Well, seems there was this male black lab mix running around the neighborhood at the time. We tied her up outside to do her business, and apparently, HE did HIS. A few short months later, and we had puppies. Here are the updates I sent to friends at the time about Shelby, her puppies, and what our cats thought about the situation:
As mentioned, we kept two of her puppies - Kirby and KC.

Chris visited home at least every month or so, and Shelby and the other dogs tended to be very depressed when she was not home. But when she got back, they almost attacked her, hoping onto her lap and licking away.

Well, Chris' 12yo rat-terrier became pregnant by the next-door neighbor's Spitz. In September, she had three puppies. In October, Chris went back to Fort Branch, and when she came home, she had one of the puppies, she called Jake. Shelby and the "grrls" nosed and licked him, and he had a home.

Whenever we went out on our deck, Shelby and KC would wrestle a bit, and Jake would try to join in. Kirby tended to shy away, though she'd join in now and then. Over the years, Jake came to "rule the roost", and he and Shelby would "wrestle" around the living room. Jake would growl and nip at her back legs, she'd run around with him chasing her, and he'd stand over her chewing on her ears. The others were scared when they did - I think Shelby could be a bit rough, and with Jake growling and such - they tended to huddle by Chris or me.

2003

Shelby also tended not to hang around OUR yard, but visited the neighbors' at times. However, early on, we didn't worry about that. All of the dogs would go out with Chris or me, and would come right back in, when they were done. But, there was this one day ---

I got home from work before Chris. I took the dogs out, and they did their business. However, Shelby wandered on down the street while I was dealing with the other two. I called to her and she kept right on wandering down toward 39. Kirby and KC wanted to follow, but I corralled them and ushered them into the house. Then I headed down toward 39, calling Shelby's name. By the time I got to 39, and a little north on it, I saw a black lab being loaded into a car - Actually, the people opened the car door, and the dog jumped in! I was SURE it was Shelby, but couldn't be positive. I went back home, grabbed the leash, and headed back out to 39. I went the same direction, and by the time I got to Brendenwood's stop-light, I was sure that Shelby was gone. About that time, a pickup went through the light, across to the gas station, carrying a man, a woman and ... a black lab. I crossed 39, and as I was getting close to the truck, I asked if that were their dog. They said no, that they didn't have a phone right now, and was going to call the number on the tag. I asked if the number was - our number - and they said yes. So, I hooked up Shelby, and dragged her back home. At the time I had a hard boot on one foot (after a surgery), and at the distance I had already walked, it was hurting. Anyway, I got her home, and shortly after, I believe, Christopher got all three dogs tags with name, address, phone number, etc., on them.

2008
That was a long time ago. More recently, Shelby was much slower than the other dogs in coming back in for Chris (no leash, again). She tended to stop and smell the air. (We live close to Pizza Hut, so that's probably part of what she was smelling.) Her eyes were starting to get a little cloudy, but she seemed to be able to see and hear ok, Still, she was getting old - about 84-90 in dog years.

Well a couple of days ago, there was no real indication that anything was going to happen. Shelby and Jake wrestled a bit, and Shelby acted quite normally - taking her time outside,... laying by the food bowl (guarding it) and munching while laying down... etc.

We had a garage sale, and for the last part of each day - Friday and Saturday - the dogs were out, greeting people, enjoying the freedom, etc. Shelby was the last to come back in, but again, that was normal.

I got up Sunday at about 12:45, and Shelby was laying in the bathroom. She normally would get up and go into the living room, but she didn't. She bent out of my way. She was panting, but that was relatively normal for her at times, too, so I didn't think anything of it.

I went out to the living room and a few minutes later, Shelby came out of the bathroom. She came into the living room, and I noticed she was kind of wobbily on her feet. She hacked up some mucus, and wandered toward me, heading into the laundry room. I called her out of there, because I knew she'd probably poo there. She came back, and about 1/2-way back, she gacked again. When she got to me, I petted her. She sat down, like normal, but then she laid down, breathing hard, on her side.

I petted her a few minutes, and after she didn't move much, I called Chris, and told her something was wrong with Shelby.  She got up and took the dogs out and Shelby didn't even try to get up. When she came back in, I told her about the gack - mostly food in one - I'd already cleaned up, and the two new puddles

Then we put a sheet under her and dragged her into the living room, so I could use my wheelchair into and out of the kitchen. She didn't even raise her head when we did this. She laid in the living room, and Chris laid by her all day. Chris got up a couple of times to take the others out, and Shelby struggled to her feet, and went out, but either Chris had to pick up her front end and drag her in (very bad for her already bad back, but I couldn't really help very well from the wheelchair, and if I'd have tried standing, I'd have fallen over), or as soon as she hit the hardwood floor inside the door, she'd lay down, and Chris would have to drag her over to the sheet.

Chris had also looked up some things on the internet. We thought maybe she had a stroke, and some sites said that the dog could not only survive, but with time, could recover from one. We called Indianapolis Emergency Vet Hospital to ask questions, but they wanted us to bring her in, which we could NOT afford. We discussed if there were no changes taking her to one of the local vets, and if they couldn't do anything, to have her put down.  Chris had been syringe-feeding her water most of the day, and one time Shelby sat up enough to drink some water out of a bowl.

This went on for some time, and we called the boys to tell them if they wanted to see Shelby again, they should come by. Christopher had a video-speech to give, and Chris told him she wasn't going to be able to come. (He had to have a certain number of people, and Chris and I were in the count.) He'd gotten my other son, Matthew, to come. When he stopped by for my tripod, on the way, he found out about Shelby. I told him to come back afterward, and he did.

After he left, Chris decided to stay out in the living room with Shelby, and I stayed up doing other things. Every time there was an odd noise, Chris sat up and looked at Shelby. She had been breathing hard all day.  About 4:30, Chris got up, took the others out and tried to get Shelby to go. She wouldn't. Chris laid down and was watching Shelby, when she said "She just died." She'd taken three deep breaths, and stopped breathing.

Chris texted Christopher (so if they were asleep, it wouldn't wake them or Katie up), and we were surprised when he texted back. We needed help getting Shelby outside and burying her. He came over a little after 5 and took Shelby out back. Chris went with him, and they buried her behind our trees.

Shelby was a pretty good dog. There were times she didn't listen, but there are a LOT of dogs out there that do the same. We hope she lived a good life, despite the times we yelled at her for various things.

RIP, Shelby.

Piers: I think America had a very hard time (picking a winner). One act, we know from their emotions, that they let themselves down, I don't agree. The pressure on America to vote was huge. The pressue on these acts is tremendous.

The acts will each perform with one of their heroes tonight.

Landau Eugene Murphy Jr with Patti LaBelle
Song - "You're All I Need (To Get By)"
LEM - It's been a dream come true. When all this started, my mother asked me who I would like to sing with, and I said, Miss Patti LaBelle.
GREAT performance by both - Patti at 67, Landau at 37. WOW.

That's one of those "How in the Hell do they do some of that stuff?" acts.

For one act, the end of the road.
America has voted. The act finishing in fourth place and leaving the competition is: Poplyfe
Montage of the AGT journey from Auditions to now, mostly the judges' comments.
Favorite memory - Probably the one we just made (performing with Stevie Wonder). We had so much fun.

Commercials / Segment #10

Next act out: America has voted. The act finishing in third place and leaving the competition is: Team iLuminate (ARE YOU KIDDING ME?)
Montage of their AGT Highlights.
[It's GOTTA be that America figured they were already stars and needed to help someone else. GEEZE!]
This was the most amazing experience of our lives. Thank America for the opportunity, the judges for their comments...
Sharon: Every time they have performed, their concept has amazed myself, the other judges and America.

[I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm sure. I hope that producers around America and the world are watching this show. There are a LOT of good acts that haven't made it. Every one of the top 10 deserve their own acts somewhere, and there are at least several in the groups before them.]

Commercials / Segment #11

Montage of Jackie ... Best selling debut artist ever, and latest album went straight to #1.
Jackie Evancho performs Nessun Dorma (an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot)

Montage of both acts "jouney" through AGT... Silhouettes first, then Landau.
The whole competition has been leading up to this moment.

America has voted. The winner of the $1,000,000 and the star of the headline show in Las Vegas is: LANDAU EUGENE MURPHY JR. Wow! (From carwasher to $1,000,000 crooner.)
Thank you so much for believing in me. It's been a long hard journey.
He's surrounded by every one of the Silhouettes.

LANDAU WINS!

That's it, America. You voted for the crooner. And he proved tonight he can do more. What a year! This was one of the best ever. I hope to see you all next year.

TTFN! ;-)

Commercials / Segment #2

Landau Eugene Murphy Jr - Singer
Bio montage.
Piers: Could I see him in Vegas tomorrow? Absolutely.
Song - "My Way"
[GREAT JOB!]
Standing Ovation - including the judges.
Piers: What a moment Landau. You've come such a long way on this show. You took your hero's best sone, and sang it absolutely from the heart. I can tell you right now, that is the marker. That is a million dollar performance.
Sharon: You gave me goose-bumps. It was perfectly sung. I heard your vocal range. You didn't play it safe tonight. You gave it your all.
Howie: Landau Eugene Murphy - I have to tell you that there is a good chance that you just sealed the deal.
[It's going to take some to top that, but I'm sure the others will do their best!]

Landau performing a duet with Patty LaBelle tomorrow night.

Commercials / Segment #3

The acts coming into Vegas...

Team iLuminate - Hard to describe - Dancers, actors, technological performances...
Montage of TI practicing.
Standing Ovation, including judges.
Sharon: Technology, creativity, and someone with a vision. And you are the reason our show is so much different than any other. Singers rely on other peoples' songs. You just do it all from zero. And it's just brilliant. It was bigger and better tonight.
Howie: Original. Wonderful. I think you're at just a little bit of a disadvantage. Because people will vote based on a connection, and it may just be that a single act (Landau) may have a better chance than a group your size. But America, if you believe that this group should win, you have to vote.
Piers: We normally just say that you're what this show is about. But you are what this country is about. Smart young people with vision to create jobs, create

Team iLuminate will perform with Cobra Starship tomorrow.

Commercials / Segment #4

Poplyfe - Band
Bio.
Sharon: I can see no reason Poplyfe can't win. They're young and talented and can go all the way.
Songs: (Queen) - We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions\
Some ovation, but judges stayed seated.
Howie: I believe you are champions and you have what it takes, but some of the notes...
Piers: Everyone on the top 4 is going to win. I thought some of the singing was a bit off, and the performace was a bit frenetic... But
Sharon: Your singing wasn't quite on tonight, but your passion is. You are a star.

Poplyfe performing with Stevie Wonder tomorrow.

Commercials / Segment #5

Technical problems for Silhouettes act.
Montage of some first auditions
Montage of Nick at some of the sites, and some of his reactions to acts.

Silhouettes
to "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong
Great. Standing Ovation by all again.
Piers: I think like Landau and Team iLuminate you saved the best for last.
Sharon: Inpirational.
Howie: They had the perfect ending - the word Love. We loved it. America loves it. America has to vote for their favorite act.

Biggest decision you have to make - Pick a winner.

From tonight's performance, it would be Team iLuminate, though Landau and Silhouettes were fantastic, too, and Poplyfe is MUCH better than tonight's performance.

I won't be (too) upset, no matter who wins.

Cya Tomorrow for the Finale. ;-)
